We are in the last week of our first card marking. I want to remind students that all make up work needs to be turned in by Friday!
In addition we are having our quiz on Unit 2 this Thursday. I will have a study guide for students on Wednesday to help ensure you are ready. MONDAY and TUESDAY Learning Target: Solve and graph compound inequalities Success Criteria: You are successful if you can - graph compound inequalities using OR for "opposite directions" and AND for "in between" -graph compound inequalities with x in the middle as "in between" -solve compound inequalities by using opposite operations on BOTH sides of the inequalities WEDNESDAY Learning Target: Solve and graph both regular and compound inequalities Success Criteria: -solve one and two step equations -remember when graphing open circle is for < or > and closed circle for ≤ or ≥ -graph compound inequalities using OR for "opposite directions" and AND or compound as "in between" -solve compound inequalities by using opposite operations on BOTH sides of the inequalities THURSDAY QUIZ today! Learning Target: Solve and graph regular and compound inequalities Success Criteria: -solve one and two step equations -remember when graphing open circle is for < or > and closed circle for ≤ or ≥ -graph compound inequalities using OR for "opposite directions" and AND or compound as "in between" -solve compound inequalities by using opposite operations on BOTH sides of the inequalities FRIDAY HALF DAY Learning Target: Understand your graph and how it was calculated for MP1 Success Criteria: You are successful if you can calculate your graph from the 3 categories of you grade.

We are fast approaching the end of our first card marking period, and students have just taken the first Unit Test of the year. Scores have been posted and students will get a copy of their score report on Monday that let's them know what Learning Targets they still need to work on.
On Tuesday, students will have a chance to re-do up to 2 Learning targets from the test to help improve their score but they must turn in their review sheets for each target! MONDAY Learning Target: Review only those learning targets from unit 1 that you didn't show mastery of (scored less than 80% on the Unit 1 test). Success Criteria: You are successful if you complete a review sheet for EVERY Learning Target that you scored less than 80% from the Unit 1 Test. Remember the 5 learning targets were: LT1: Independent and Dependent Variables LT2: Vertical Line Test LT3: Characteristics of Graphs LT4: Function Notation LT5: Domain and Range TUESDAY Learning Target: Review of solving one and two step equations. Success Criteria: You are successful if you can - use reverse order of operations (PEMDAS) - use opposite operations (instead of addition - use subtraction and instead of multiplication use division) - GET X BY ITSELF WEDNESDAY - THURSDAY Learning Target: Solve 1 and 2 step linear inequalities Success Criteria: You are successful if you can -Remember that > is greater than, < less than (the alligator mouth eats the larger number) -solve inequalities in the same way you solve equalities -EXCEPT the multiplication and division of negative numbers across the inequality changes the sign FRIDAY Learning Target: Graphing Linear and Compound Inequalities Success Criteria: You are successful if you can - use a number line to graph a solution to an inequality - Remember open circle is for < and > and closed circle is for ≤ and ≥ This week students will have a chance to take the fall PSAT to see where their strengths and weaknesses are on this test. This is a great chance to start preparing students for the SAT test that is used to help determine college acceptance. Come ready to take the test on Wednesday!
MONDAY Learning Target: Review of LT3 - Characteristics of Graphs Review of LT4 - Function Notation Review of LT5 - Domain and Range Success Criteria: -Be able to give the function family, absolute max/min, increasing/decreasing, continuous/discrete, and function or not - Be able to write an equation in function notation using f(independent variable) - Be able to find the domain and range from a graph, tell if a table is a function, and map a function TUESDAY and THURSDAY Learning Target: Review all 5 learning targets from Unit 1 in preparation for our test on Friday LT1: Independent and Dependent Variables LT2: Vertical Line Test LT3 - Characteristics of Graphs LT4 - Function Notation LT5 - Domain and Range Success Criteria: -Be able to find the independent and dependent variable from a graph or situation -Use the vertical line test to determine if a graph is a function or not -Be able to give the function family, absolute max/min, increasing/decreasing, continuous/discrete, and function or not - Be able to write an equation in function notation using f(independent variable) - Be able to find the domain and range from a graph, tell if a table is a function, and map a function WEDNESDAY PSAT all morning today! FRIDAY Unit 1 Post Assessment - This is our first big test of the year, be sure to complete your study guide and actually study! On Friday we took our quiz from unit 1. Grades are posted in your Student Connect. If you missed the quiz on Friday, see me to make it up.
MONDAY We will be taking notes on LT4 Learning Target: Make sense of function notation Success Criteria: You are successful if you can - convert an equation into function notation by replacing the dependent variable with f(x) or f(independent variable) - evaluate a function for a value by substituting and simplifying the expression. TUESDAY We will be practicing LT4 Learning Target: Make sense of function notation Success Criteria: You are successful if you can - convert an equation into function notation by replacing the dependent variable with f(x) or f(independent variable) - evaluate a function for a value by substituting and simplifying the expression. WEDNESDAY We will be taking notes on using domain and range Learning Target: Understand the domain and range of a function Success Criteria: You are successful if you can: - determine the domain and range of a function by looking at it's graph - determine if the input/output table values of an equation are those of a function or not -create a mapping of a function THURSDAY We will be practicing understanding how to use domain and range Learning Target: Understand the domain and range of a function Success Criteria: You are successful if you can: - determine the domain and range of a function by looking at it's graph - determine if the input/output table values of an equation are those of a function or not -create a mapping of a function FRIDAY Today we will have a prep rally at the high school between 8:30 and lunch. 4th and 5th hours will have a chance to review for their Unit 1 test. Progress Reports come home on Tuesday! I put your first progress report grade into MIStar on Friday. This grade reflects all the assignments that you completed and turned in (or didn't turn in) as well as your first quiz grade for Unit 0.
If you didn't do as well as you had hoped, change your ways now. Start by organizing a math folder with all your work and then making sure you complete and turn it in. You can also stay for tutoring on Tuesdays or Thursday to get extra help. MONDAY - WEDNESDAY Learning Target: Understand the vocabulary that is used to describe the characteristics of a graph. Success Criteria: You are successful if you can: Describe a graph as having: -an absolute minimum (low point), maximum (high point) or neither -as a function or NOT a function (use the vertical line test) -as increasing (going up as x increases), decreasing (going down as x increases), or constant -as continuous (line or curve) or discrete (points) -give the function family linear, quadratic, exponential, linear absolute value, or piecewise THURSDAY Learning Target: Review LT1 Independent vs Dependent variables, LT2 Vertical Line Test, and LT3 on Characteristics of a graph Success Criteria: You are successful if you can: -determine the independent and dependent variable from a graph or situation -use the vertical line test to determine if a graph is a function or not -describe a graph of an equation by its characterisitcs FRIDAY QUIZ over the first 3 Learning Targets of Unit 1 |
