This week students still have a chance to make up their quiz on Quadratic Functions to help improve their grade. See me to schedule a time to retake if you are interested! MONDAY Learning Target: Solve quadratic functions using the quadratic formula, graphing, and factoring. Today we will finish up our guided practice on using the quadratic formula to solve quadratic equations, and have some time to practice this. Assignment: Pg. 245 #11-22 WEDNESDAY Learning Target: Simplify Square Roots Today we will take a minute to review square roots and how to simplify them when they are not perfect squares. The attached sheet if today's assignment THURSDAY Learning Target: Understand what an imaginary number is and how to simplify. Today we will be working in a group to investigate imaginary numbers. See me if you missed this assignment. Below is a video that gives a basic introduction if you missed class. Assignment: Pg. 253 #8-12 and 18-26

We are officially half way through our 3rd card marking and will have parent-teacher conferences on Wednesday afternoon. If you missed the quiz last week, want to redo the quiz, or have missing work to turn in, make sure you come to see me. MONDAY Learning Target: Solve the 3 forms of quadratic equations and how to use these to find key features and solve for x. On Monday we will be looking at the 3 forms of quadratic equations: vertex, standard, and factored form and organize our thoughts on the key features of each. Then we will move into how to solve for x for a quadratic equation when the equation is in factored form. ASSIGNMENT: Pg. 229 #9 - 17 WEDNESDAY Learning Target: Solve quadratic equations using graphing Today we have a short day due to PTCs this afternoon. We will focus on how to use our TI-NSpire calculator to find the solution of a quadratic equation. ASSIGMENT: Pg. 229 #27-35 Below is a video that shows the steps if you missed this class. THURSDAY
Learning Target: Solve quadratic equations using the quadratic equation. Today we will be in section 4.7 of the book looking at how to apply the quadratic formula to solve for x in a quadratic equation. Below is the notes sheet for class. ASSIGNMENT: Pg. 245 #11 - 22 We are finally reaching the middle of our unit on Quadratic Functions, and that means students should expect a quiz on sections 4.1 - 4.3 on Wednesday. MONDAY Learning Target: Review properties of quadratic equations and their graphs. Today students will have a chance to review factoring a quadratic equation when a is not 1 (Look at Thursday's blog if you want more details on this.) 2nd hour needs to complete their notes on this since they were in an assembly on last Thursday. We will also be reviewing for our quiz on Wednesday by completing a study guide which is attached below. The answer key to the study guide will be posted on Tuesday! WEDNESDAY
Learning Target: Show what you know about quadratic equations and their graphs. QUIZ TODAY Today we are taking a quiz on sections 4.1 - 4.3 in the book. Please make sure your study guide is complete and turned in for credit. THURSDAY Learning Target: Practice factoring a quadratic equation. Today we will finish up looking at how to factor by looking at all of the cases we learned over the base week: when a = 1, when you are factoring out the GCF, and when a is not equal to 1. We are now in the hardest section of our chapter on Quadratics - learning how to factor. Over this next week, we will be practicing how to use Double Distribution and then how to work backward and how to factor a quadratic. Work hard! You can do this. MONDAY Learning Target: Factoring a Binomial (Quadratic) and a=1 Today we will review our notes and homework on how to use double distribution (using FOIL or BOX) to go from y = (x + a)(x + b) to a quadratic in standard form (y = ax^2 + bx + c). The Notes sheet. Homework: Pg. 221 14 - 31 WEDNESDAY Learning Target: Understand how to use GCF (Greatest Common Factor) in Algebraic Expressions Today we will look at how GCF can be used to find factors in quadratic expressions. This helps us rewrite expressions in other formats. Assignment: Pg. 221 #23-37 THURSDAY
Learning Target: Understand how to Factor Quadratics when a is not equal to 1 Today we will take the skills we learned over the last week and use them to help us factor quadratic equations where the a coefficients is not 1. |
