Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break. Now that we are back at it, we are working hard on our Unit 3 learning targets. This week we are focusing on reviewing LT1 and 2 and adding LT 5:
LT1: Use Algebraic properties (such as distributive property and combining like terms) LT2: Write an equation in terms of two variables and analyze the different meanings LT5: Use literal equations to solve for an unknown quantity MONDAY LT: Review the use of algebraic properties and writing equations in two variables to solve equations. SC: You are successful if you can: combing like terms and distribute to solve equations. Additionally you need to write equations in terms of 2 variables, then substitute in a known quantity and solve. TUESDAY: LT: Use literal equations to solve for an unknown quantity SC: You are successful if you can use addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division to manipulate an equation. WEDNESDAY LT: Use literal equations to solve for an unknown quantity. SC: You are successful if you can use operations and rules of equations to solve a formula for one variable. THURSDAY LT: Review using algebraic properties, writing in 2 variables and using literal equations to solve for an unknown. SC: You are successful if you can: - Use combining like and distribution to solve an equation -Take a scenario and use it to write a 2 variable equation, substitute an known quantity and then solve for the other unknown -Use operations and rules of equations to solve a formula for one variable FRIDAY LT: QUIZ on LT1, LT2, and LT3 Show what you know about the first 3 learning targets

This week we are starting our 3rd Unit of the School Year where we will be focusing on looking at 2 variable functions and equations.
There are 5 learning targets in this Unit: LT1: Use Algebraic properties (such as distributive property and combining like terms) LT2: Write an equation in terms of two variables and analyze the different meanings LT3: Compare a linear relationship represented in standard form and slope-intercept form LT4: Look at a linear equation in any form, graph it, and identify the x and y intercepts LT5: Use literal equations to solve for an unknown quantity MONDAY: LT: Show what you already know about Using Linear Functions and Equations by taking the Preassessment for the Unit SC: You are successful is you show what you already know about using algebraic properties, writing 2 variable functions, finding the x and y intercepts, and using literal equations TUESDAY LT: Use the Algebraic Property of Combining Like Terms SC: You are successful if you can solve equations that have more than one like term requiring combination WEDNESDAY LT: Use the Algebraic Property of Distribution SC: You are successful if you can solve equations that require you to distribute a constant to a variable and a number inside parenthesis. THURSDAY LT: Use Algebraic Properties to Solve complex linear equations SC: You are successful if you can solve multiple types of linear equations where both distribution and combination are required FRIDAY LT: Write functions from 2 variable scenarios SC: You are successful is you can write a function or equation that involves both an x and y variable from a situation or scenario. We took the Unit 2 Post test today. Grades have been posted for those students that completed it. If you were absent or on a field trip, you will be making the test up on Monday during class.
We are now entering the 2nd full week for the new marking period. Grades from the first week were posted on Friday. Please check the back wall for a print out, or check on Student/Parent Connect. Many students have not start the new marking period off on a good note - there are missing and incomplete assignments that need to be turned in.
Goal for this Week: Review all 5 of our Learning Targets from Unit 2 in preparation for our Unit 2 Post Test Scheduled for this Friday (November 11th). The learning targets are listed below: Learning Target 1: Solve one step and two step equations and inequalities Learning Target 2: Given a scenario, complete a table of values, calculate unit rates of change, identify the independent and dependent values for the situation, and write a function. Learning Target 3: Estimate and determine exact values of dependent quantities and intersection points. Learning Target 4: Write, solve, and graph inequalities (regular and compound) Learning Target 5: Understand, solve, and graph linear absolute values (including inequality) MONDAY: Complete our practice of Learning Target 2 and 3 by reading a scenario, identifying the independent and dependent quantity, and constant rate of change. That information will be used to write a function/equation or inequality and estimate a value from this equation. TUESDAY: No School - Election Day WEDNESDAY: Review Learning Targets 1, 4, and 5 using a Writeboard review. THURSDAY: Review Learning Targets 2 and 3 FRIDAY: Unit 2 Post Test Reminder: There will be tutoring on Wednesday and Thursday this week for students that find they need extra help preparing for the Unit 2 Post test. Parent Teacher conferences are Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at OPFI. Student report cards will be handed out at this time. I hope to see parents and students there. If for whatever reason you cannot make parent teacher conferences and would like to talk to me about your student's grade in Algebra, please email me at [email protected].
